Cultivate Gathering is a learning party. What does that mean? Well, basically it's designed to be everything good about a conference without all the rigamarole... and much more fun and interactive.

Instead of charging in the hundreds of dollars for one ticket, it's only $70 and that includes a terrific lunch.
Instead of maxing out our capacity, we limit our numbers to give everyone there the best possible environment for networking.
Instead of bringing in some big-name, American speakers to tell us what they already wrote in their latest book, we are looking to Canadian church planters and leaders to tell their stories.
Instead of you listening to message after message and being filled with information, we want you to be part of a conversation with people in similar shoes and learn and grow within that relationship.
Instead of some fancy shmancy hotel, convention centre or big church building, Cultivate Gathering is taking place at a local coffee house in Hamilton, ON called The Freeway.

Cultivate Gathering is for anyone who is interested in church planting or creating mission-shaped churches. And is happening because of numerous conversations between different people, organizations, networks and churches in Canada that long to see new forms of church thrive and relational networking happen. We are tired of the same old, same old conferences and just simply want to be friends, inspire each other, and swap stories, ideas, and encouragement.

August 2006 Gathering

The first Cultivate Learning Party took place in August 2006 at The Freeway in Hamilton, Ontario. About 40 people gathered to talk about church planting and creating new forms of church and a good time was had by all.

We concentrated on five areas for our discussions:

Gatherings
Creativity/The Arts
Justice
Leadership/Networking
Community

The second Cultivate Learning Party took place on April 21, 2007 at The Freeway in Hamilton, Ontario. More than fifty people gathered to talk about church planting and creating new forms of church and a good time was had by all. We explored three areas:

Registration

Registration for Cultivate Gathering is a measly $50 [which includes a delicious lunch] if you register by March 1st, 2008. You can register after that [if there are spaces available] but the cost will be $75, so register soon to avoid disappointment.

You can register by sending us a cheque made payable to "The Freeway", along with the names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of those you are registering [contact info and address here...]. If you want to ensure your spot immediately, drop us a line and let us know "the cheque's in the mail."

After you have registered, we will contact you to let you know your registration has gone through.

Meals & Snacks

Coffee, tea, snacks, etc. throughout the day is your responsibility... good thing Cultivate Gathering is taking place in a coffee house that has been touted as having the best cup of fair trade coffee or tea in Hamilton.

Lunch will be provided at the coffee house and it will include:

a delicious sandwich
a side salad
a beverage of your choice
two cookies

Supper following the gathering is up to you. But we strongly encourage you to go out to one of our local ethnic restaurants, with people from the gathering and get to know them more and continue learning about their experiences in creating new forms of church.

How It Works

We have divided the day's festivities into 3 segments [planting, neighbourhood, leading]. In each of these segments:

The first 30-45 minutes or so will involve a panel discussion in order to hear the story of some of those in the room that have been picked ahead of time to share their story on that particular segment.
The next 15 minutes or so will be an "open mic" time where anyone can come up and share their story about the specific segment, ask a question, offer a challenge, an idea or some encouragement, etc.
The final amount of allotted time [an hour or so] is set up for discussion in what we will call "party pods". The room will have eight or so pods and each pod will be dedicated to a certain part of the segment [which will be revealed when you arrive] and everyone is free to merge in and out of the pods at their wish... be involved in discussion that is of interest to you.
